Itinerary
Day 1: Coffs Harbour to Slingsby’s Trail (3-4 hours hiking)
We head from Coffs Harbour, through the picturesque Bellingen Valley, up to the Dorrigo Ranges. After a refreshing swim at spectacular Dangar Falls, we’ll enjoy a healthy lunch and then organise our trekking gear for the adventure.
We’ll hike into the stunning national park to the edge of the breathtaking escarpment. We’ll be weaving between saplings and tree ferns and listening to the sounds of the rainforest pigeons and lyrebirds. We’ll then set up our camp and enjoy a tasty whole-food dinner in the ancient Gondwana Rainforest. (L/D)
Day 2: Slingsby’s Trail to Never Never River (4-5 hours hiking)
After breakfast, we’ll head off with day packs on Whitney’s Trail along the top of the escarpment. We’ll pass a number of lookouts with scenic views across the surrounding landscape. We’ll be walking through Antarctic beech cool temperate rainforest – few places on earth contain so many plants and animals which remain relatively unchanged for millions of years. After reaching the crystal clear waters of Never Never River for a refreshing swim, we’ll then head back to camp on Slingsby’s Trail for a well earned rest. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Slingsby’s Trail to Bellingen (3-4 hours hiking)
Today we’ll pack up our camp and we’ll then head down from the breathtaking escarpment on the historic Syndicate Ridge track, once the site of a logging tramway. We’ll hike past beautiful Bangalow Palms to the grasslands of Killungoondie Plain, which the Gunbaynggirr People once kept clear for hunting and camping. We’ll then meet our vehicle and drive to a hidden swim hole to cool down and have a relaxing lunch before heading into Bellingen for a quick look at one of Australia’s best country towns. We’ll then head back to Coffs Airport for flights home. (B/L)
