Return Private Chartered Flight between Hobart and Melaleuca
Day 1: Hobart to New Harbour (4 hours hiking)
After arriving in Hobart, we’ll be transferred to our private chartered flight. This one hour flight takes us over rugged Tasmanian Mountains to the far tip of Tasmania. We’ll head south on the South Coast Track, crossing Moth Creek and button grass plains towards the New Harbour Range. We’ll then veer west on the rarely used Wilson Bight Track to arrive at a beautiful, wild beach at New Harbour. After setting up camp, we’ll explore the beach and keep our eyes out for Spotted-Tail Quolls that are often seen in this area.
Day 2: New Harbour to Wilson Bight (4-6 hours hiking)
On Day 2, after a healthy breakfast, we’ll head west to Ketchem Bay. We’ll be crossing a number of remote beaches, stunning headlands, and wild forests to reach one of the most remote camp spots in Australia. The terrain is rugged and challenging and truly spectacular! After setting up camp, we’ll have the option of heading with day packs to Wilson Bight, another beautiful, remote beach. We’ll then head back to camp to enjoy a well-deserved hearty meal.
Day 3: Ketchem Bay to New Harbour (4 hours hiking)
Today we retrace our steps across the wild beaches and stunning headlands to our camp at New Harbour. In the afternoon, we’ll explore a number of side tracks, creeks and forests and climb to vantage points that look out over the Southern Ocean.
Day 4: New Harbour to Hobart (4 hours hiking)
On our final day, we’ll head back across the buttongrass plains to Melaleuca. At Melaleuca we’ll then finish with the Needwonnee Walk, an award winning walk that explores Aboriginal culture with sculptural installations. We’ll also look at the Denny King bird hide, built here to observe the endangered orange-bellied parrot. After our flight back to Hobart, we’ll have time to enjoy a drink to celebrate this epic adventure.
