You will be fundraising a minimum of $1000 per family group to provide a place on an Outward Bound Program for a disadvantaged young person. 

Family Adventure

Most treks out there simply aren’t set up for families but we’ve designed one for you that is perfect for parents with children aged 8-16 who are active and who enjoy the outdoors. You will be joined by other families who have an Outward Bound heritage as well. The trip combines a mixture of stunning scenery, mostly easy to moderate trekking terrain with enough challenge to give children a real sense of achievement. We will complete the journey in two person sea kayaks, with a guide and full support. 

It’s great to inspire your own children with a sense of adventure, while providing an incredible opportunity for a disadvantaged young person to discover adventure. It is giving the gift of adventure on a whole new level!

Day 1: Hobart to Hazards Beach Camp (3-4 hours hiking)

We head from Hobart to the stunning East Coast of Tasmania. After organising our trekking gear, we’ll hike up between Mount Mayson and Mount Amos for our first glimpse of the white sandy beaches of Wineglass Bay. We will transport the majority of our gear by water taxi to our first night’s campsite.

After a short descent down to the Bay we’ll cut across the peninsula on the Isthmus Track past Hazards Lagoon to Hazards Beach. At the end of this beautiful beach our campsite awaits us, hidden amongst the trees. Tonight you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner as you listen to the sound of the waves lapping on the sand.

Day 2: Hazards Beach to Cooks Corner (2 hours plus optional additional 2-hour walk with day pack)

After breakfast, we’ll head south, through the forests to Cooks Corner, another stunning white beach overlooking Great Oyster Bay. After setting up camp at Cooks Corner we’ll set off on an optional additional walk to Bryans Beach for spectacular views out to Schouten Island and a swim in the crystal clear waters.

Day 3: Cooks Corner to Wineglass Bay (6-7 hours hiking)

After breakfast and an invigorating swim in the ocean, we’ll pack up camp and head inland through the tall stands of Stringybark. The track climbs gradually to the summit of Mount Graham where we’ll enjoy incredible 360 mountain panoramas at one of the best view points in Australia! After a lazy lunch taking in the scenery, we’ll continue north over a heathland plateau and then descend down to an idyllic camp spot at the south end of Wineglass Bay. Soak up the scenery after a great day of walking!

Day 4: Wineglass Bay to Hobart (2-3 hours sea kayaking)

After a leisurely breakfast enjoying the water views, our 2 person Sea Kayaks will be brought to The Isthmus, and our gear will be picked up. We will have a local guide to accompany us and demonstrate techniques as we paddle across Great Oyster Bay to Coles Bay, seeing the incredible marine environment up close. The perfect way to finish an incredible journey.

We’ll then be picked up to drive south towards our drop off point at Hobart Airport. What an adventure you will have shared with your family!

We will be walking with backpacks for around 4 hours on day 1 & 2 and for 6 hours on day 3. We will be paddling in 2 person sea kayaks on Day 4. The majority of our gear will be dropped at camp on Day 1, and picked up from camp on Day 4. The trek is suitable for parents and children aged 8 or above who are active and who enjoy the outdoors. Parents can opt to carry most of the gear for their children. Moderate fitness required (speak to us if you want to know whether this is suitable for you). Some uneven track surfaces.
The trip will be hosted by two qualified Primal Adventures guides with tons of experience hiking and adventuring with families. In addition, they are both trained in wilderness first aid, have working with children clearances and will carry emergency communication systems.
The East Coast of Tasmania is shielded from the prevailing westerly weather by the mountainous interior of the island and high central plateau. The result is a cool temperate and maritime climate that enjoys lots of sunshine! Temperatures do not fluctuate greatly and average rainfall is significantly lower than western and central parts of Tasmania. Weather can always be unpredictable however, and its necessary to prepare for all conditions and to have good-quality warm clothing. Jeans and cotton clothing are not suitable for hiking.

We supply: tents, inflatable mattresses, cooking equipment, plates/cutlery, first aid kit, safety equipment and maps.

All the meals as indicated above are included in the price. The food is based on nutritious, healthy, wholefood recipes. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
The tour starts and finishes at Hobart Airport. We will pick you up at 8am on Day 1 and drop you off at approximately 6pm on Day 4.

Includes 4-day guided adventure with 2 Primal Adventures Guides, 3 nights camping accommodation, transport to and from Hobart Airport to Coles Bay, 2 person sea kayaks on Day 4, all meals as stated above together with healthy snacks, National Park permits, first aid kit, safety equipment and cooking equipment.

Excludes sleeping bags, travel insurance (compulsory) and flights.

A deposit of $600 per person is required to secure your place.
Full payment is required 8 weeks before the date of your trek.

Comprehensive personal travel insurance is required for this trip. We will also ask you to fill out a disclaimer before you begin the adventure. You must follow the instructions of your guide at all times.
When you book you must notify us of any medical condition, medical history, or medications that you are on. In particular, asthma, diabetes, heart conditions, allergies to wasp/ bee stings and food allergies.

With any outdoor activity, there is an element of risk. Primal Adventures operates in remote and mountainous areas. Risks in undertaking this activity could include hypothermia due to adverse weather conditions, personal injury, or property damage from hiking over rugged and uneven terrain.
