Come and join us for your Portland Adventure Camp. We’re going to be doing a whole range of adventurous activities over 3 days and 2 nights, staying near the beautiful bushland in the Blue Mountains at KCC.  So blow off the cobwebs of COVID, get out into the bush with us and come and have some fun! This is for all the teens like you who dream of adventures to far away places...

Primal Adventures owner Helen Cooper, 2 Portland School Teachers, Andrew Neville from Ant Fitness, plus activity specialists from High and Wild.

Free of charge.

The program is fully funded by Outdoors NSW & ACT through the Youth Resilience Program which has been funded as part of the Bushfire Community Resilience and Recovery Fund.

Adventure Plan

We will be heading off to the picturesque Blue Mountains to spend two nights at staying at KCC, perched on the edge of the escarpment at Katoomba. While there, we will be doing three days of exciting adventurous activities including a half-day of abseiling. We will finalise the exact schedule closer to camp. There will also be lots of other fun and interesting things to do along the way as well!

Abseiling

Challenge yourself to descend a rock face on an awesome abseiling adventure led by the experienced staff at High and Wild

Scenic Adventure Race

Run around to your hearts content during your amazing adventure race on the grounds of KCC, which will combine archery, obstacles, and challenge course activities. 

Bushwalking

We’ll head off for a bush walk in the local Katoomba area, exploring at our leisure.  

Trivia night & camp games

Challenge your school mates to a friendly after dinner Trivia game, plus other fun team games on both evenings. 

Accommodation

Dormitory-style accommodation in the Hartley Building at KCC. Each room has an ensuite, and there is a large meeting room for games or wet weather activities. All meals and snacks will be provided. 

Transport

You will be picked up and returned back to Portland on a private coach with driver. You will be transported to the abseil site by High and Wild Adventures in their mini-buses. You will be making your way around on foot for the remainder of the time as all other activities are accessible from our accommodation near Echo Point.

    This trip is suitable for students in Year 9 & 10 at Portland Central School
    Helen Cooper (owner of Primal Adventures, qualified Secondary School Teacher, Cert IV in Outdoor Rec, Wilderness 1st Aid, Current Working with Children Check) will be leading the trip Andrew Neville (Owner of Ant Fitness Portland) will be assisting during the trip Portland Central School Teachers Hannah Kelly & TBC (male teacher) will be accompanying the students for the duration of the trip. Specialist Activity Providers will be leading Abseiling and Scenic Adventure Race activities, accompanied by staff
    This trip is suitable for students with an average fitness level. No previous experience is required. Please get in touch if you have questions or concerns.

    What to wear each day

  • Long pants
  • T-shirt (no singlet tops)
  • Jumper or warm jacket
  • Runners/trainers

    * No jeans as they don’t dry well if it’s wet

    What to bring in daypack

  • Raincoat
  • Extra warm jumper/fleece
  • Sun Hat
  • Gloves
  • Beanie
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Any medication with name & details (give to Teachers)

    What to pack in duffle bag or similar

  • Single Bed sheet & pillow case
  • Towel
  • Warm clothes & socks for evening – trakkies or similar
  • PJ’s
  • Torch/Headtorch
  • Toothbrush & toothpaste
  • 3 changes of clothes & underwear (includes one spare for if it gets wet)
  • Shoes for indoors

    * Please label all personal gear

    * Please leave electronics at home. You may bring a mobile phone if you have one, for emergency calls or to take photos only. Phone use will be monitored by teachers, and phones may be removed at certain times including overnight.

  • All meals & snacks are included. The food is based on nutritious, healthy, wholefood recipes. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements. Please don’t bring extra lollies and snacks. We’ve got it covered.
