On our Patagonia Adventure you'll be heading off with a highly experienced team to explore the best of this spectacular area.  You'll visit the three main valleys along the W-Trek with incredible views of the towering peaks, hanging glaciers, and the river valley up close. Each day will be a new horizon to explore in this journey across the magical landscape. You will then have further adventures by horseback and on the river, exploring the hidden treasures of this special place.

Accommodation

We stay in one of Puerto Natales’ best hotels. While trekking we stay in fully equipped tents in four different locations. We also stay at a Riverside Camp for three nights in comfortable dome tents with dining tent, private chef and hot showers. All accommodation is twin-share. Single supplement available at additional cost – please enquire.

Itinerary

DAY 1: PUNTA ARENAS TO PUERTO NATALES (SATURDAY)

We will pick you up from the airport and transfer to the seaside town of Puerto Natales. We will check in at the lakeside Hotel Costaustralis, and settle in for our first night together. we’ll get together for a delicious meal to get acquainted with your fellow travellers, and begin to become acquainted with this incredible region.

DAY 2: HIKE TO LAS TORRES LOOKOUT (SUNDAY)

We’ll begin the day with a drive through through open pampas and huge estancias, and chances are we will be able to observe one of the most typical animals in this area, the ñandu. After arriving at our campsite, we’ll be able to drop off our gear and trek to the base of the Towers, following the Ascencio River to enter the Ascencio Valley. As we walk up the valley, you’ll be surrounded by unbelievable beech forests, glaciers and waterfalls. We’ll continue to a huge terminal moraine before reaching a lookout that captures the incredible view of the Towers. Later, we’ll head back down to camp and enjoy our first evening in these glorious mountains.

DAY 3: HIKE TO LOS CUERNOS (MONDAY))

We will start early morning to enjoy a magnificent dawn in the mountains. As we leave the campground we will arrive at Inge lagoon where we may see the flight of an Andean Condor, or eagles hunting hares, or small rodents. Wildlife abounds in this place! We follow a the trail from the base of Almirante Nieto Mountain (2750 M), crossing the Bader River to arrive at Los Cuernos camp, our destination for the night.

DAY 4: PEHOE LAKE VIA FRENCH VALLEY (TUESDAY)

Our day begins with a trek to see the spectacular hanging glacier on the French River. We then ascend through a landscape that looks much like a Japanese garden to reach an incredible viewpoint of the French Valley. After a delicious lunch amongst these towering peaks, we head down and along a path around Paine Grande, the highest peak in the National Park. We will camp the night on the shores of Pehoe Lake.

DAY 5: HIKE TO GREY GLACIER – OPTIONAL ICE HIKE OR KAYAK (WEDNESDAY)

Our trek begins in the early hours to see the incredible Grey Glacier up close. This is where we get our first glimpse of the expansive South Patagonia Ice Field with it’s many unclimbed mountains. We will head through forests and across rives, with possible sightings of ‘spectacle’ and ‘flying steamer’ ducks to reach the viewpoint. We will stop for lunch, possibly seeing ice calving from the huge glacier wall. There is the option of an ice hike or Kayak in the afternoon (additional cost). We will camp just minutes from the Glacier, and you will hear its movement as you rest.

DAY 6: BOAT TRIP ON GREY LAKE (THURSDAY)

Today we will have the morning to rest and explore the area at your leisure. After lunch we will begin our exciting adventure by boat. This will give us a vantage point to see up close the glacier as it calves, and and see much of the route we have hiked. We will then be transferred to our private Riverside camp where we will spend our last days in the National Park.

DAY 7: HORSE RIDE TO DONOSO HILL (FRIDAY)

We will head out on a unique circuit, beginning in the vast flatlands. We will ride through the Serrano River with its crystal turquoise water, endemic Nirre and Lenga Forests to discover the Serrano Waterfalls. We will experience Patagonia’s unique gaucho culture, with guides who have lived in the area and worked with the horses for many years. It will take us to the peak of Donoso Hill, with its 360 degree views of the incredible countryside. After our 6 hour ride, we will arrive back at our Riverside camp for more relaxation amongst this breathtaking landscape.

DAY 8: KAYAK TO GREY GLACIER OR FREE DAY (SATURDAY)

Today you have the luxury of a free day at camp to relax and recharge, or a full day kayaking excursion (Kayaking only available to over 16’s.) We will be transported to the southern part of the park to the beautiful wilderness area surrounding Grey Lake. We will paddle through floes of ice that have descended from Glacier Grey, sculpted into incredible shapes by the wind and sun before being pushed to the shores of the lake. DAY 9: RETURN TO PUNTA ARENAS (SUNDAY)

Our adventure comes to an end here, as we are transported 3 hours in a private vehicle back to Punta Arenas Airport. You can either choose to return home or continue on to another adventure! After 9 days, you will be feeling relaxed, energised and revitalised, ready to take on the year ahead.

You’ll be walking for between 4-8 hours each day carrying a daypack. Moderate fitness levels required . This trek is suitable for children aged 10 and above, who are fit and enjoy walking, and who are accompanied by an adult.
Items not included are flights, drinks, extra food, personal expenses, travel insurance, gratuities and visas.

With any outdoor activity, there is an element of risk. Primal Adventures operates in remote and mountainous areas. Risks in undertaking this activity could include hypothermia due to adverse weather conditions, personal injury, or property damage from hiking over rugged and uneven terrain.
