Would you like to experience an incredible trekking adventure? Join us as we hike through some inland Eucalypt forests and refreshing freshwater lakes to explore some of Australia’s most beautiful scenery. Share the stunning natural beauty, white sandy beaches, cool waterholes and pristine forests. 

We will have three days on the trail, enjoying the final night in the beautiful Kingfisher Bay Resort. A luxurious way to finish an incredible trip!

Day 1: Hervey Bay to Lake Benaroon (4-6 hours hiking)

We will pick you up from Hervey Bay Airport to meet the early morning flight from Sydney. After organising our trekking gear, we will catch a ferry across to Wanggoolba Creek. We may even spot a whale on our way over! We will then be picked up by our private 4WD transport to take us to the trailhead at Dili Village on the eastern coast. We will stop for a delicious lunch at Lake Boomajin, where we can enjoy a refreshing swim in the spectacular freshwater lake. We will continue our trek through the ever-changing landscape of the island. We will set up camp at Lake Benaroon, and enjoy a nutritious meal on the shores of this secluded lake.(L/D)

Day 2: Lake Benaroon to Lake Mackenzie (4-6 hours hiking)

We will head along the quiet trails away from the crowds through the Eucalypt forests dotted with scribbly gums, and lit with ancient ferns. After stopping for lunch and a swim at the sparkling Lake Birabeen, we will continue our amble to the spectacular Lake Mackenzie. Will will arrive at this renowned place after all the day trippers have gone to savour the exquisite beauty. After a hearty dinner we will enjoy the peace and quiet and gaze at the million stars. (B/L/D)

Day 3: Lake Mackenzie to Kingfisher Bay Resort (3-4 hours hiking)

We can wake up and have an early morning swim to get us going, followed by a hearty breakfast. We will hike along the boardwalks through the stands of tea-tree, and beautiful areas of banksia scrub. The trail will take us to Kingfisher Bay, where we be able to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere at this beautiful eco-friendly Resort. Following an afternoon of relaxation and exploration, we will meet for an optional group meal to celebrate our successes on the trail. What stories we will have! (B/L/D)


Day 4: Kingfisher Bay Resort to Hervey Bay

 We will have a satisfying breakfast at this fabulous resort, and make the most of the morning here. We will then catch the boat to Hervey Bay, and be transferred to our return flights. There is also the option of extending your stay at the Resort (At own expense, subject to availability). What an adventure it will be, memories you will have forever. (B)

Fitness Levels

We will be walking with backpacks for around 4-6 hours per day hours on day 1, 2 and 3. Moderate fitness required (speak to us if you want to know whether this is suitable for you). Some uneven track surfaces.

Guides and Safety

You will be guided by Helen Cooper who is an experienced and qualified bushwalking guide licensed to lead trekking groups in Queensland. In addition, she is trained in wilderness first aid and will carry emergency communication systems. She will enjoy talking to you about keeping fit and living the way that nature intended on this incredible adventure!

What to Take

Fraser Island has a sub-tropical climate with temperatures moderated by its proximity to the sea. Weather can always be unpredictable however, and its necessary to prepare for all conditions and to have good-quality clothing. Jeans and cotton clothing are not suitable for hiking.

backpack (65 litres minimum for adults)
backpack liners (strong plastic bags to keep clothes and sleeping bag dry)
3-season sleeping bag
waterproof raincoat (Gore-tex or similar)
warm fleece/wool jersey (not cotton)
hiking shorts or pants
2 shirts for hiking (dry fit material and preferably long-sleeved for sun protection)
2 pairs of hiking socks
sunscreen and sunglasses
drink bottles/bladder (3 litres)
swim wear
travel towel
spare shoes or sandals
flashlight/head lamp
insect repellent
spare set of clothes
personal medication

Optional items: Gaiters (recommended if wearing shorts), binoculars, earplugs, walking poles, camera.

We supply: tents, inflatable mattresses, cooking equipment, plates/cutlery, first aid kit, safety equipment and maps.


All the meals as indicated above are included in the price (B/L/D). The food is based on nutritious, healthy, wholefood recipes. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements. Among the group equipment is a portable stove which we will carry on the trek.


The tour starts and finishes at Hervey Bay Airport. Please contact us prior to booking flights as we will recommend the best options. We will also provide transfers if you wish to stay at Kingfisher Bay Resort after the hike.

Includes 4-day guided adventure with 1 Primal Adventures Guide, 2 nights camping accommodation, 1 night at Kingfisher Bay Resort in a twin-share room, boat transfers, airport transfers, all meals as stated above together with healthy snacks, National Park hiking permits, camping permits, first aid kit, safety equipment and cooking equipment.

Excludes sleeping bags, travel insurance (compulsory) and flights.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive personal travel insurance is required for this trip. We will also ask you to fill out a disclaimer before you begin the adventure. You must follow the instructions of your guide at all times.

Medical Conditions

We will send out an online medical form to complete one-week prior to the trek. Please advise us of any critical medical issues or allergies when booking. 

Client Responsibilities

With any outdoor activity, there is an element of risk. Primal Adventures operates in remote and mountainous areas. Risks in undertaking this activity could include hypothermia due to adverse weather conditions, personal injury, or property damage from hiking over rugged and uneven terrain.

The staff and management of Primal Adventures take all practicable steps to identify and minimise potential dangers. However you must follow our instructions (and use the safety equipment provided) at all times. Adults accompanying any person under the age of 18 must ensure that the underage person follows our instructions at all times. You must release or indemnify Primal Adventures and our staff against any liability we incur to anyone else, resulting from your failure to follow our instructions or the failure of any person accompanying you under the age of 18 to follow our instructions.

Primal Adventures and their guides reserve the right to make any alterations to the itinerary in the interest of safety, comfort or unforeseen circumstances due to causes such as weather, illness, or misadventure. Every reasonable endeavour will be made to keep to published schedules but no guarantee is given. Primal Adventures will not be held liable for costs incurred by change, delay, or the missing of connecting services.

Primal Adventures reserves the right to exclude a person from a tour at anytime if in the opinion of the guide or operator that person may be likely to risk the health, safety or comfort (including unsociable behaviour) of other clients, him or herself, or the environment. In such circumstances Primal Adventures will not be obliged to offer any refund or transfer of ticket.
