This 5-day Abel Tasman Adventure is designed to give you:
- an incredible adventure in a stunning and peaceful natural landscape;
- a restful break from the stresses of everyday life; and
- a powerful fitness goal to inspire and motivate you towards better health.
DAY 1 - Nelson to Flora Hut (1-2 Hours hiking)
On Day 1, you’ll arrive in Nelson, at the top of the South Island. We'll then head into Kahurangi National Park to start the Tablelands Circuit. This has everything you want from a New Zealand trek - mountains, tussock tops, expansive views, great tracks and huts, beautiful forests, bubbling brooks and rock shelters. We'll start the trek with a short walk to Flora Hut, a two-roomed hut with a wood fire set in a forest clearing. A fantastic spot to spend our first night! D
DAY 2 – Flora Hut to salisbury lodge (4-5 HOURS HIKING)
After an early breakfast, we’ll head off from Flora Hut towards Salisbury Lodge. We'll be walking through beautiful beach forest to start with and pass a number of impressive rock shelters on the way. We'll then head through rolling tussock expanses punctuated by patches of forest to reach Salisbury Lodge. This is a modern style hut with gas cooking and heating and a very comfortable place to stay on our second night! In the afternoon, explore around the hut, take part in a stretch session or simply relax and read a book before enjoying a delicious healthy dinner! BLD
DAY 3 – salisbury hut to mount arthur hut (5-6 HOURS HIKING)
After breakfast, we'll head through the bush to a tussock spur that leads to Gordons Pyramid. We'll then descend an undulating ridge and hike across Horshoe Basin towards Mount Arthur. Weather permitting, we'll head up Mount Arthur. The ridge steepens, and poles lead through marble faces up to the broad summit. This is one of the finest viewpoints in Kahurangi! We'll then descend to Mount Arthur Hut. This smaller hut is set on the bushline and is a great spot for our last night on the circuit. In the evening you'll enjoy another delicious healthy dinner! BLD
DAY 4 – mount arthur hut to Awaroa lodge (1-2 HOURS HIKING)
On day 4, we'll head out of Kahurangi and after a short forest walk, we'll be transported to Abel Tasman National Park. This incredible national park has outstanding coastal scenery with golden sand beaches, granite headlands and lush rainforests. We'll travel by water taxi to Awaroa Lodge. This secluded lodge is surrounded by pristine waterways and native forest and is the perfect spot for our final night on the adventure. After a swim in the ocean, we'll enjoy a celebratory dinner in the main lodge which is warm, inviting and full of character! BLD
DAY 5 – awaroa lodge to nelson (2-3 hours kayaking)
Today is our last day in NZ and after breakfast we'll take a short walk to pick up our kayaks at the beach. What better way to see this spectacular national park! We'll explore the beaches and islands in double kayaks under the supervision of a local guide. The scenery is truly outstanding! We'll then head back to Nelson Airport for flights back to Australia. What an adventure! B
